7 de marzo, 2010 - III domingo de Cuaresma

En las lecturas de esta semana, las higueras se queman y el nombre de Dios es revelado, se nos advierte de ángeles destruyentes que se van contra quienes se quejan, los árboles son advertidos por no producir frutos, pero te dan una oportunidad más. Esto es, en verdad, una rara combinación de mensajes. Me gusta ver a los verbos que Dios usa a la higuera ardiente que envía a Moisés. "He sido testigo" y "he escuchado," (refiriéndose a la esclavitud de Israel), después: "he venido," "ha guiarlos a salirse." Éstas son las promesas eternas que confiamos en Dios. Confiamos que Dios ha visto nuestros casos y que comprende nuestro estado de pecado. Confiamos que Dios nos escucha cuando llamamos, hasta con los medios-corazones, y confiamos que haremos de nuestro desorden algo mejor. Por eso tenemos la fuerza para vencer al pasado. La Cuaresma se trata de esperar la Pascua– hacia el MAÑANA. Mañana ya no repetiremos los mismos errores que ayer. ¡Entonces, sigan adelante como Cristianos!

Sunday, March 7, 2010 - Third Sunday of Lent

In this week's readings, bushes burn and God's name is revealed, we are warned of destroying angels that afflict the grumblers, fig trees are threatened for not producing, but given another chance. This is, truly, an odd collection of texts. I like to look at the verbs God uses at the burning bush to commission Moses: "I have witnessed" and "I have heard," (regarding Israel 's slavery), then: "I have come," "to lead them out." These are the eternal promises we trust God for. We trust that God has seen our trials and in someway understands even our sinfulness. We trust that God hears us when we call, even with half-hearts, and we trust that we will be met in our mess and led out of it to something better. That's why we have the strength to overcome our past. Lent is always about looking toward Easter—toward TOMORROW. Tomorrow doesn't have to be a repeat of the mistakes of yesterday. So, Onward Christian!
